Ford House: The luxurious estate where the history of the Ford family comes to life!
111

Ford House — a luxurious historic estate located on the shores of Lake St. Clair in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. This unique architectural masterpiece was the home of Edsel Ford, son of the founder of Ford Motor Company Henry Ford, and his family. The estate is not only a symbol of luxury and refined style of the 20th century but also an important cultural heritage of the USA.

Construction of Ford House began in 1926 and was completed in 1929. Edsel Ford and his wife Eleanor wanted to create the perfect family home, combining the elegance of European architecture with the comfort of modern life. For this, they hired the renowned architect Albert Kahn, who designed the residence in the style of an English cottage.

The estate served as the home for the Ford family until Eleanor Ford's death in 1976. She willed the house and surrounding land to the public, and since then, Ford House has become a historic museum open to visitors.

The building of the estate impresses with its grandeur and details. It is constructed from sandstone, giving it an antique appearance, and the roof is covered with stone tiles. Inside, guests are greeted by elegant rooms adorned with valuable types of wood, luxurious tapestries, refined chandeliers, and antique furniture.

Particular attention is drawn to:

  • Library with wooden panels, filled with rare books.
  • Living room with a fireplace, where the Ford family often gathered.
  • Dining room, decorated in a classic style, where the family received guests.
  • Art collection that includes works by Van Gogh, Diego Rivera, and other prominent artists.

Ford House is surrounded by 87 acres of well-maintained gardens, forests, and the shoreline of Lake St. Clair. The landscape design of the estate was developed by the famous designer Jens Jensen, who created a harmonious composition with natural elements that beautifully complement the architecture of the house.

On the territory, you can see:

  • Pink Garden, enchanting with blooming roses in spring and summer.
  • Japanese Garden, offering a sense of peace and harmony.
  • Water cascades and ponds that add a special charm to the place.

Today, Ford House is a popular tourist attraction and cultural center. Guided tours, exhibitions, art events, and educational programs are held here. Visitors can learn more about the lives of the Ford family, the history of the automobile empire, and enjoy the beauty of this unique place.

Ford House is not just a museum but a real journey into the past that allows visitors to experience the atmosphere of elegant 20th-century life.
