FedEx Corporation, originally known as Federal Express Corporation, is an American multinational conglomerate holding company specializing in transportation, e-commerce, and business services. The name "FedEx" is an abbreviation of "Federal Express" – the original airline used from 1973 to 2000.
Today, FedEx is known for its air delivery through its FedEx Express division, which was one of the first major carriers to offer overnight delivery services. Subsequently, FedEx expanded by adding FedEx Ground, FedEx Office, FedEx Supply Chain, and FedEx Freight in response to competition from UPS.
